I have just booked my flights for a new trip to do research on my book 'Beads from the torch'.
I will be heading for India, Japan, China, Australia, Hongkong, Taiwan and Singapore. My focus will be on glass lampworked beads, looking at old beads, but mostly visiting production sites and beadmakers.

I already have a lot of ideas, but was hoping some of you might have some good ideas to throw in the mix!

Hopefully, the book will be written in 2019, and finished before Tucson 2020!

I just want to let you know I really admire your energy in your craft and research in beads. Where do you find all this ambition?

Your friend,
Matt

I think I have always been ambitious one way or another. Doing bead research is exhausting and fun and exciting and rewarding at the same time.

I could ofcourse travel to a beach somewhere, but I'd much rather go to some obscure bead factory or meet fellow glass artists on the other side of the world.

The struggle is mostly with balancing time and money between my day job, volunteer work, art, research and travel.

If you can also keep your eyes peeled for phenolic resin beads...

and ask when & where they were acquired, I'd appreciate it! For example I already have phenolic beads on necklaces & bracelets from Sulawesi, Indonesia - and would love to know when this material arrived in that general region.
I appreciate all your bead research and thanks again for letting me tag along to Jablonec!
