Are these glass or stone beads? If stone what are the names of stone.

All beads come from Myanmar.

Thank you so much for help and advice.

It's clear to see that these beads have been drilled from end to end.
Glass is usually wound on a mandrill so I would have to say these are stone.
The blue ones could be glass pieces that have been shaped and drilled but I haven't seen drilled glass except for German marbles.
I think your beads are prob stone of some sort. Look for air bubbles too. That is a sure sign of glass.
NICE BEADS...

Dear Sallie,
The first 3 collared beads are stone named Amethyst. The second row with the 3 collared beads are glass beads that have been cold drilled.
Second photo with the elephants, I can tell you for sure that the blueish& greenish are glass that also have been cold drilled from both ends. When I say "cold drill" I mean after shaping or casting the bead and the glass was firmed, than they drill it, probably with the use of water. The bottom left elephant (greenish), might also be glass, (hard to tell form the photo), and the other white elephants are likely rock Chrystal.
All the best,
Yankee

Pretty much agree with the determination between stone and glass. There are quite a few examples where glass pieces have been coldworked, but carved and drilled. Glass was often traded and treated the same way as precious stone was.
The pieces that you think are amethyst, I would think are more likely to be rose quartz. Amethyst tends to be more purple, while these are more pink.

Dear Floor,
You might be right . Amethyst have variations of colors that are overlapping with Rose quarts(from almost completely white to deep purple) although Rose quarts usually are more transparent. The beads in questions are lacking this transparency. Guess I'll never know till I hold them in my hands.
All the best, Yankee

Thank You for all your kind comments and information, Odan, Yankee and Floor.

Much appreciated.

I am posting another three beads and would like to ask again are they glass or stone, if stone what are the names?

2 beads on the right appear to have double perforations but actually there is only one perforation. Thought you might like to look.

Thank you.

Sallie

Hello Sallie,

If you have not seen it, my photo-essay on "Pyu" beads, posted here, includes most of the beads that interest you. It is the 4th entry in the Articles area.

Hi Jamey

Thanks for referring me to your essay on Pyu beads which I have read several times.

I see there are several glass prismatic beads quite similar to the ones I show. Except that my beads are more translucent and brighter than the ones shown in your essay.

Can you tell from my picture whether my beads are stone or glass ? If stone what are the names of the stone ?

Thank you for any help.

Sallie
