The central bead in this German marble necklace is one and one eighth inch or 29mm in diameter:

Some huge phenolic resin beads - over 2"

These beads are really neat but it's hard to imagine myself wearing them.

In Tucson, I chatted with Mahamadou Sumareh, a bead seller who is around 6' 6" tall - he's part Fulani. He was wearing a strand of large phenolic oblate beads. He would be able to wear even larger beads like these and it would look fine on him.

I think all the large beads are best worn by the larger members of the human race, who can carry off the "look".

Not that I'm discouraging anyone else to wear huge beads if they like them!

If you've got it, flaunt it. -A good one, that is.

I believe people should show off what they've got. ..Especially an important large bead -like an Art Seymour.

Shell Pendant

Shell Pendant: 2.125" (54mm) x 7.5 " (190mm) approximately. I've never put this on, but I suspect it would roll back and forth somewhat, depending on one's physique.

Conus shell, (Monetaria) cowrie shells, clam shell heishi, conch shell (beads), dyed Lagrimas de Maria grass seed (blue), Pernambuco tree seed (red), glass and carnelian beads, waxed linen, and polished hemp cording. Inside the conus shell is a round clay fired spindle whorl of indeterminate age/origin.

Hi all,

I love large Venetian beads! I usually do not deny a bead because I could not comfortably wear it. Not that I don't like wearing beads, but I seem to be a specimen collector instead of needing to acquire full intact strands. Besides large strands of the beads I gravitate to almost always are too expensive for my budget.

1. Extra large 7 layer chevron 60mm x 40mm 113 grams.

2. Rare Venetian raised bump bead 48mm x 31mm.

Enjoy and I would appreciate seeing more larger Venetian beads that may be difficult to wear.

Matt

I occasionally wear this necklace, made with a black stone Bactrian (?) maze head, strung on an old silver chain from the Moroccan Atlas.

Once I was about to attend a Christmas Eve dinner at a very exclusive club, where wearing a tie is sine qua non condition, as the doorman politely informed me. Then, looking down he added, with a smail of complicity: "Except when someone wears a necklace such as yours..."

My personal fave large unwearable bead necklace, possibly because I put it together.

Unwearable not so much because of the size of the huge beads, but because viewers seem to find it alarming rather than attractive.

What are the large beads with sparkles made of?

Acrylic, I think, with glitter. Originally sold in Africa. 1950s maybe?

Not only is this strand too large to wear comfortably (it feels like it weighs a ton) but the center bead is a whopping 50 mm x 42 mm.
