Dear All, a friend of mine asked me about the whereabout from this bead. The inner part seems to be ceramic the eyes are glass. I thought probably Asia and not old. He told me there is also a version in red. Thanks and regards, Christian

What would make you think there may be a ceramic base?

I have not seen the beads with my own eyes and just added the suggestion of my friend to the post.

They are made of glass. There might be some rough or light colored release material in the hole, which remains as part of the process.
