A collector in Greece just sent me these images wanting any information on the beads he could get. I haven't seen these before but they are definitely a very interesting batch.

The eye bead illustrated is especially interesting since it is composed of three laminated layers.

Any thoughts?

These are Chinese made, fairly recent, and with an artificial patina. I think.
I think the dotted beads are made with frit.
The eye beads are not, I think, made of three laminated layers. They appear to be made on a green/blue base, white added on the surface, and on there the dark and red stripes (and smaller dots). At least, that is how I would attempt to make these beads.

Here is a cross section of one of the eye beads (the ones with the yellow dots, not the ones that are eye shaped). Since the eyes appear on both the outer and inner (hole) surfaces, it looks like there are three layers fused together.

Guess I am confused. Where are you seeing the dots on the inside? They appear to have 'sunk in' somewhat, but they are not visible to me as dots in the hole.

Sorry, Floor. It is I who is confused. I misunderstood what the person wrote in describing these beads and didn't look closely enough at all the images he sent. You are correct. There is no lamination.

the white layer is release material in the hole, one sign it's from China

My response yesterday was ,
"It looks like new lamp work from China to me."
