I was much astonished once I was told there are about 30 antique markets in beijing. Since I live in this city, I would like to suggest the "beijing antique town" beside the east 3rd ring road and the famous flea market "Panjia Yuan".
antique town is a big 4-floor building like a maze. There are small rooms and each one is a store. Some storekeepers have their "supplys".I like there very much for every time I went there I could have some acquisitions. You could find real treasures there if you have eyes, well the 90% antiques in "Panjia yuan" are fake but it is still a good place to know the old chinese life and custom.
I would like to show you some of my favorite stores but I am on business in Qingdao Shandong province. A pitty...

Hi Redmountain.
I'll be in Beijing from 15 to 23 june, lodging near Peking University, which I think is not far from Panjia Yuan, where surely I'll pay one or more visits. Thnak you very much for your suggestions.
Best Wishes,
Giorgio
Hi Giorgio
You are wellcome!
well it is not near from PKU to Panjia Yuan. I think you need at least 1.5 hour to get there by bus for PkU is in the northwest of the city well Panjia Yuan the southeast. Beijing is HUGE! and crowded!
the antique town is worth visiting. it just 5 mins walk from Panjia Yuan.
Liuli Chang is also a good place. It is hard for foreigners to find those small shops deep in a Yard called "Haiwang Cun". I have some friends there who deal with Tibetain amber and turquoise.
Good luck in Beijing!
