He's quite cold and definitely stone.
Worn shiny around the neck and between arms and legs - almost like he was sewn onto something for a while. I don't know how to determine what carving tools were used.
I've enjoyed looking at images of Guerrero stone carvings - both contemporary and old - so appreciate that direction.
Also.. I guess he IS a little jaguar!
I have an small brown clay figure, I think just a head--he's still packed up somewhere (don't judge!) that sort of reminds me of your little figurine. Just something about the face, eyes, style, etc.
He was given to me in the late 70's, by a friend who got him at a store in Ann Arbor, MI that specialized in ancient artifacts, a private collection from South America.
Of course, that is not proof, nor provenance, and doesn't really mean anything. Just that it may be at least 50 years old.
Every time I see a post by you, Luann, I am reminded of one of your little bear beads that I purchased for my daughter. She hardly ever wore it, and finally I begged her to return it. He happily resides on a stainless steel chain (sterling silver tarnishes especially in summer months.) lalalala
