I just spent a few days in Jablonec, and was able to photograph sample cards from the archives of the museum.

This is just a sample of some of the beauty I saw. Every card tells such a great story of production, trying to mimick designs from far away places and precious materials, and of trying to show of the skill of the producer is the best light.

More will be posted on my website, but for now.....Enjoy!

Most of these are from two Export companies, Sachse & Co and Wilhelm Klaar. Most cards date from 1900 to 1930.

I had some beads identical to the one just to the left of clear bead #28622 - at the time several people assumed they were Czech, and now that is confirmed!

Thanks, Floor, for all your hard work and bead travel - and safe and rewarding journeys for the future!

This card is of especialy interest ("Chinoiserie" > Will). I have never seen any piece of Bohemian jewelry containing such pieces!

Does the card have a date? Name of company?

All cards are magnificent indeed!

I am so happy that you and others are getting to photograph the wonderful sample cards at the Museum of Glass and Jewelry. I was not able to do so when I visited the museum in 1987. Although I had received permission from the government authorities to photograph sample cards, the letter did not reach my home until I was already in Europe. Of course, the director of the museum had not been sent a copy. So I had to content myself taking copious notes and mental images. Ah, the good old Soviet days!

It's a huge project that we appreciate so much! For future generations interested, many questions will be answered, many mysteries solved due to your diligence in documentation as well as physically rounding up the cards that you can. Thank you for sharing these images!
