These beads have all appeared on African trade strands with antique Venetian beads. However, they do not seem to be typical Venetian production. Beads range in diameter from 11 - 14.5 mm. The flattened ends are very uniform, as is the almost 3 mm hole size.

I'm waiting to obtain enough for a necklace - if you spot any for sale anywhere - please let me know!

these shown here and others in my collection are almost certainly to have been retrieved from sets of lace bobbins which were no longer being used- and -see p. 11 in my latest book- Carole Morris has the most detailed knowledge about them-

I have some lace bobbin beads with squiggles, but they are much smaller than the examples I've shown, and the glass and colors are not good matches.

When I read your title awhile ago, these beads came to mind. I saw the listing again today. They are glass, says the seller. I've not seen these before.

Here is a picture of a 24 mm round squiggle bead with yellow base beside some of the beads with pale pink base (13-14 mm). The squiggles appear to be from the same "hand".

Second picture shows the same squiggle beads compared to several lace bobbin squiggle beads (8 - 8.5 mm) I have. The colors and workmanship are not as close a match as with the large yellow bead.
