Polly Nobbs-Larue, daughter of Russ Nobbs, posted this on her Facebook account today:

What's on my mind? A few life-changing things involving work and family... On Tuesday August 15, Rings & Things' system shut down. This was the straw that broke Rings & Things back. Without access to our website, ERP & accounting system, we couldn't ship & bill any orders to make money to fix it. We sent everyone home and "marinated" on it. So... on August 17th, my brother and I began the process of filing for bankruptcy, for the family business. 😢 This is chapter 7, shutting down entirely, not chapter 11 reorganization. The same afternoon, I got a phone call from Harborview hospital, on the other side of the state. My stepdad's friend showed up to hang out with him, and found him on the floor... he'd had a stroke some time earlier in the day, and he was promptly airlifted to Harborview. It's taken nearly a full month for me to be able to process these 2 events enough to go public with them. Thankfully Dennis has awesome friends and coworkers who have really pulled together for him, visiting him almost every day (3+ hour round trip for most of them), taking care of his house and blind kitty, and handling all of his bills. Dennis Thompson has a long road ahead of him. He is talking well, his memory and right side strength seem good, and he has a strong drive to regain the movement that is currently lost on his left side. It's likely to be 6 months before we really know how much mobility he's going to regain. If you'd like to help with funding to alter Dennis' house so he can live in it while he re-learns how to walk, here is his gofundme: https://www.gofundme.com/.../dennis-thompson-stroke... More good news, is that his friends are mostly in the construction-related industry or have built their own houses in the woods, so they've volunteered to do the work; we just need to figure out what needs to happen and buy the parts. I've only gotten a chance to visit him once during this, because Seattle is a wee drive, and I'm dealing with closing down a 50-year-old family business, and figuring out which of my job skills are most hireable for the best pay. (Technical writing is easiest for me. I'm good with databases too but I figure out SQL and Access on a "need to know" basis, so I don't have the terminology down well, or any certifications. I also have no problem walking 7+ miles per day in all weather, so I'm seriously considering being a USPS mail carrier for a couple years while I get my qualifications certified).
