Great batch of carnelians. Here are a couple I picked up at an antique shop back a ways behind the Boudha Stupa in Nepal last month. The owner said that they came out of Tibet. He also had an unusual black dZi with white zigzags that also had come to Nepal from Tibet. I identified it for him as a Burmese pumtek. So these beads could have come from anywhere.

The carved carnelian has a nice patina and good bead hole wear. From the 'lac' residue on one end I assume that it had been set into something previously. Probably of Indian origin, but I have no idea about the age or exact provenance.

The small, tri-colored one is interesting in that it has asymmetrical banding, yet it doesn't appear to have been broken.

If anyone recognizes either of them, any information would be appreciated.

Steve
