Among favorite subject matter in Japanese art is the Chinese boy or "Karako." Here you see a Karako about to wear the Lion Dancer costume, part of the Chinese New Year celebrations.

This karako ojime has an ivory face with a fabricated multi metal costume. This excellent example was sold at auction in London for about sixty six hundred US dollars about ten years ago.

It is difficult to imagine how small it is -but only 18mm or 3/4 inch in height!
