Like many others I inherited old beads and other jewellery made of un PC materials. Made a long, long, time ago when conservation issues re ivory were unthought of. But I respect craftsmanship. Retrospective angst re historic items is a dilemma. I also have a few pieces of Victorian Whitby jet and was horrified to discover that young apprentices often suffered terrible injuries when grindstones fractured and fell apart. Many industrial processes had inherent dangers to operatives. Should that lessen my enjoyment of the products? Or veto my wearing them ?
