"Oriental" Charm Necklaces 1930s - 1990s | |||||

It made me recollect Frederick's post about these necklaces, which exert a cheerfully garish charm.
Two odd things about this necklace:
1) It features a Western style spring ring clasp typical of the 1930s
2) Two Venetian millefiori beads have been added, either by the seller or the purchaser?
Continuing pics show another version of the gilded filigree style of necklace, and a bookchain necklace in the style attributed to the Miriam Haskell atelier. Note what appear to be Japanese glass beads in this latter necklace?
So I wonder if the Chinese filigree necklaces were the inspiration for later Haskell necklaces? The filigree versions are stamped "CHINA" and seem to feature only Chinese beads, whereas the Haskell necklaces are a grab bag of things from all over - glass, plastic, lacquer, cinnabar...
