I put up the bead to show mastery of fire as the most important tool of Mauritanian beadmakers.

In that sense - you have to admit - this bead is a terrific job. Let's not forget the lack of "electric city", and oven, computer-controls and a timer - among other re-engineered gimmicks from Zeta Reticuli.

Had you played as much with fire as I did, you would certainly understand how difficult it is to repair a broken bead with nothing but some colored glasspowder, charcoal, a handheld wind-maker and Canned Heat.

If we ignore what came after the controlled inferno - design and color (black is no color, they say) - we must admit one more time that simple tools can compete with modern techMology, when experienced female hands are at work - in the desert!

Yes, you are right! The design - though still not as floppy a design as known from "Kiffa Beads" - is not a highlight of Saharan artistry. It does not really fit in - I know how that feels - and the colors are off, leading to only 3 points for the "paint-job".

Still - I bet, nobody has realized that I was showing a broken bead. One that had been repaired with the help of fire! All 10 points for the physical repair!

Worth a waffle with marzipan - for the Midnight Man!
