I was just reading the Peter Francis review of the Picard book on millefiori beads. He makes a point that most (89%) of the milles made before WWI were made from composite canes, not cased canes like the one shown here.

I have images of only a few sample cards of Venetian beads that are pre- 1900, and none show any millefiori beads at all.

The cane pattern on this bead would indicate a date more like the 1920s, IMHO, if the bead is Venetian.

Would like to know about any info you have that indicates an early 1800s provenance.

Also, will you kindly indicate the size?
