Thank you so much for responding Rosanna.
I confess that I'm loathe to take the strand apart to conduct the sort of tests you advise as I like the necklace so much as is.
I did try a direct material comparison to some bakelite beads I have (picture attached) via teeth tapping and temperature. I found the round ones to be both harder to the teeth and colder to the lip.
In person they really don't really resemble amber - they are more like burnished wood in appearance, but much harder than any wood I have. They seem not as hard as glass or agate.
Are phenolic resins and bakelite similar in response to simichrome? Is simichrome similar to ammonia with regard to test results?
