Vast amounts of beautiful lapidary material from Morocco has been imported into the U.S. in the past few years. The quality , color and saturation of the new "Apple Valley agate " recently imported from there has to be seen in person to be believed. I have often wondered where the rough for a strand of beads in " The History of Beads " was from and now the exceptionally saturated yellow and gold jaspers and agates from Morocco may be that source of the north African strand. The pictures and quality of the rough shown on the internet from this locale is poor compared to the wildly saturated golds , yellows , greens , reds and turquoise shades I saw in a full tractor trailer load of this agate that is now sitting in a dealers rock yard in eastern Oregon. The agates pictured are sold as " Baby Berber agates" .About 4 % are the quality of those shown. These were barely vibe tumbled and polished so you are essentially seeing the same rough as found in the field.I was fortunate to be able to sort through a couple of 55 gallon drums of them and was quite enthralled by their shape , eyes and saturated color. They remind me very much of some of the old " bean " agates from Mexico as well as some of the "popcorn " agate nodules from South Dakota. The two featured beads are approximately 10 mm in diameter with a 2.5 mm hole. The bowl of agates are polished but yet to be drilled.
