That meltable cinnabar from around the 1930s made me wonder if it's colored with red lead instead of vermilion - altho mercury sulfide isn't exactly a benign compound, either.

Sealing wax ojime for tourists? I guess I could take a tiny flake off one and hold it next to a flame in a stainless spoon to see what happens...except I'm not keen on poisoning myself with the fumes, slight tho they might be.
