I don't see it as defeating the purpose. You gave a gift, which is a piece of your heart, to someone that either meant something to you or because you knew this bracelet would mean something to them. You buying another one for yourself is something entirely different I think. Your gift made a difference to the person who received as well as to you for the pleasure of giving. Buying yourself another bracelet for you had no impact on the positive benefit of giving or receiving a gift! To me, totally different!
