One of my first windows into trade beads was reading about Stanleys first expedition into africa. They describe porters lugging massive coils of beads. I have seen a sample of tne types of beads transported by Stanley, but have never seen a depiction of how those beads were packaged and transported through the expedition. Does anyone know how this was done?
