I started this thread in hopes that many would post images of their pre-Columbian beads. I think many think of beads from Mexico when they see the term pre-Columbian. When I say pre-Columbian I mean all cultures of the Americas this includes anything all the way from Alaska to the tip of south America. I would like to see beads from any of these areas made prior to 1500.

Today I am posting a few images of beads from the Tayrona/Tairona culture. This culture was located in northeastern Colombia on the coast of the Caribbean sea. This culture made some simply amazing gold work, pottery, and less seen super beads. If you do a search on Tairona culture beads and then look at the images you will be amazed.

One of the finest ancient stone beads I have ever seen is a Tairona bead that is in book Collectable Beads by Robert Liu.

Here is the first of a few pretty darn nice Tairona beads for your enjoyment. This bead is made of Quartz and being shot with the white background it does not show the transparency all well as I wish. If you see this bead in person its pretty amazing.

Bead size 29mm long 15.7mm in diameter

All my best ............ Danny
