I have had the chance to look at these beads up close, when I interviewd Paul for my book. Very interesting beads indeed!
They felt Venetian to me. Having held quite a few Javanese beads, I would be very surprised if they were indeed from Indonesia. The surface shows age, and the overall feel is of very well made trade beads. I remember looking at their sides, and there was a round layer of white glass there.
