Original Message:   Ladies' Ceremonial Costumes from Yushu Horse Festival
In this thread I'll post pictures of ceremonial costume style in the Yushu region of Tibet. Photos come from various years of the Yushu Horse Festival (from 2004 - 2008 I think)

The regional female headdress style is very bright and distinctive - multiple rows fabric of big amber beads with a coral on top. Or should I write 'amber' and 'coral'? (I don't know)

The costumes in this exhibiton are a souped up version of the traditional ornamentation of women in the region, still commonly worn by many in daily life.

Photos I've seen of nomad women wearing the same style of headdress - looking well worn and makes me think they wear it all the time. Urban women decorate their hair in in this way when going on trips to the temple and other occasionas, and brides on their wedding day will also wear big headdresses. I would guess the photos I've seen of nomad and urban women's headdresses weigh a few hundred grams up to a kilogram or two, as opposed to 5, 10kgs or heavier in these exhibitions. Hope you enjoy the photos and please post any comments about what you think the various beads are, and about anything else you like :)

First is a photo of the same girl in her normal smart clothes and accessories. The rest of the photos are her done up for the exhibition, probably in a collection of ornaments pooled from parents, siblings and relatives.
