Hi again, Jeff. Couching or "couched overlay" is a beadwork technique involving the laying down of individual strands of beads on one thread and tacking them in place along the length of the strand with a second thread. It is alternatively known as spot-stitch or two-needle applique.

Continuing with our theme of floral beadwork in North America, here are three tobacco bags (pipe bags) from the Canadian Plains..... each decorated with Venetian seed beads in couched overlay technique.
