Original Message:   Pumtek beads history question.
About these Pumtek beads everyone has.(myself included) I've heard the term "Old and New" pumtek. Now, I have many strands of these almost worthless beads. From what I have been able to learn over the years, the newer ones were manufactured from different material then old pumtek. Old pumtek was made from fossilized palm wood.(also known as petrified wood?)I have also heard the term Opalized palm...How does that fit in? With no more Fossilized palm the new pumtek beads were made of something else. Am I right so far? Now, the pumtek beads I have,Break. Not all, just a few but they are made of some kind of petrified wood. I can see the tuborius structure like wood but like I said, very petrified but not the gell like look of agate. So just what is the differance, and what do old pumtek look like. I've seen the artical on the Pyu beads and the there is only a scetch of a necklace owned by some cheif. The rest of the beads in the artical were said to have come from Burma and were called Pyu beads. Can we inlighten Dan?
