I began to read this paper yesterday, and did not get very far before I telephoned Robert Liu to discuss it (and send it to him).

You remark that the beads are called "Pre-Contact" (which MIGHT be a possible interpretation). However, the authors refer to the beads in-question as being "Precolumbian"—which has a rather different implication.

I reserve other comments until I have read the entire text. But I am not hopeful that this will be a helpful contribution to bead study. And I predict that what it will do is further muddy the waters regarding "early blue beads," that are not "the same," but rather are only similar—with one group being mistakenly compared to and confused with another. I can see that much from their opening remarks.
