i remember seeing beads very similar to these online - they looked like carved wood but seemed familiar. today i found mine- - they don't have grain like wood, are a bit heavier, all have the exact same low-relief design of spirals and dragons.. so not individually carved. a mould seam is evident. most interesting is a slightly bronze effect, and there is a metal sleeve within the wide hole in each of them just like in many 1900s japanese beads.
