These necklaces are the exact replica of the ones of the Fulani/Peul women, who traditionally wear several of them simultaneously.(See Fisher, Africa Adorned, page 169). They are made of so called Mali carnelians--some round, some date shaped-- further adorned with clear Czech glass and fancy or arabesque Venetian trade beads, keeping always the same configuration, with minimal changes.
