hi Anne well yes i also have definite examples of carved soapstone beads very similar to your illustrated ones and i tend to think its what they might be made of- though the carving is on a much finer scale and the material does feel harder and brittle. hope to show them to more friends when i get to Tucson, because its increasingly difficult to find any beads we haven't seen before...
