The carving depicts the ritualistic human - probably Shaman - transformation into an animal, in this case what appears to be a horned sheep or similar. The deep circular areas depict both eyes and large ear plugs. What kind of animal is not clear; like the Mimbres, Casas Grandes, and other pre-columbian/pre-historic cultures in the Southwest, and Central America, and points south, it may depict a combination of mammals and/or amphibians - which at times are hard to decipher.
