Near the Murano Glass Museum is the church of Santa Maria e Donato. This is the architectural highlight of the island. The Byzantine mosaic floors were laid down around 1140. The other church is San Pietro Martire and there is a painting by Giovanni Bellini (1488). Also, I like to eat at the Duomo restaurant (located across the canal from the church of Santa Maria e Donato). Please beware of the "venetian beads" that you will find in Venice and Murano. Many are made in China. You can get four foil "Venetian glass beads" near the Rialto bridge for one euro. My husband, Francesco, was the coordinator for the Murano glass museum for several years, so if you go there, tell the workers that Francesco said hi (he's here with me!). The bead exhibit is very beautiful; you'll enjoy it. Nicole.
