Blue "Russian" beads have been found at a number of slave sites in the SErn US. Whether they accompanied slaves from Africa or were acquired here is uncertain. Several varieties certainly appear on Sheet no. 3 of the 1863 Levin collection which is marked: "Beads used in the African Trade, for slaves." Copyright 2024
