Original Message:   Jewelry Museum in Pforzheim, Germany
Does anyone have any personal information about the Schmuck-Museum Pforzheim? I'm planning my itinerary for May for Europe, and a bead friend that visited there a few years ago said they had an exhibit on African jewelry. Inquiries to the museum have gone unanswered - this seems to be quite a frequent experience, unfortunately, even when I inquire in the local language.

As I have mentioned in previous posts, I'm looking for specific information about the introduction of imitation amber beads of phenolic resin into the African trade. The museum sounds interesting in its own right but I'd love to know if anyone has visited there themselves.

For the non-German speakers - yes, "Schmuck" is the German word for jewelry. It is also a Yiddish word that should not be used in polite society, although it seems to have lost a lot of its offensiveness over the last 50-60 years. Such are the vagaries of languages...
