Original Message: Buying stone beads in China |
---|
Hello there, this is a request for advice from all you long-suffering and informative experts. I am not brave enough to venture into the antique bead market yet, but have stumbled across a clutch of stalls in Xi Cheng area selling new carved and polished beads that look like jade to me. I'm the only foreigner I've seen there, and prices are marked on the packets for wholesale, so I feel quite confident in bargaining and buying these pretty stones, and know I can make some great necklaces from them. I particularly admire the colours from milky light green to dark emerald. They cannot be scratched with steel, they are cool to the touch and in attractive mutton-fat shades swirled with all shades of green and golden brown. They are displayed next to authetic split small boulders of jade. Of course I cannot understand a word the vendors say, so no idea what they call these pretty stone beads. My problem is what shall I say these stones are to my eventual customers? Are they artificial or real jade? The store which houses the many stalls selling various stones where I found them is called something like Tianyi. All rights reserved by Bead Collector Network and its users |
