Among favorite subject matter in Japanese art is the Chinese boy or "Karako." Here you see a Karako about to wear the Lion Dancer costume, part of the Chinese New Year celebrations. This karako ojime has an ivory face with a fabricated multi metal costume. This excellent example was sold at auction in London for about sixty six hundred US dollars about ten years ago.
