Original Message:   Offering Chinese beads as Japanese Ojime is very common.
The best way to protect yourself from sellers who offer Chinese beads as if they are Japanese ojime, is by studying Chinese beads.

Even Bob Kinsey's book on ojime shows a large coral Chinese bead from a Mandarin Court Necklace on the cover. When he was relatively new as a collector he unwittingly published a good book -but with a few mistakes.

Advanced dealers usually know much more than collectors. After all, handling beads everyday provides much more experience. There are many honest advanced dealers who are protecting the history of beads and the integrity of the market place.

Meanwhile, some dishonest dealers with large inventories sometimes prefer the spray and pray technique. I wonder if the seller you mentioned actually sells any beads. She probably needs to sell only one mislabeled bead to pay for the rest of her collection of Chinese beads offered as Japanese ojime.
