Original Message: Czech or Venetian cut "rainbow" cane glass beads? And a clasp dilemma. |
---|
Re-strung two old necklaces of these rainbow cut cane beads. They had been strung with what appear to be Czech round 3mm black druk beads and an old broken tin box clasp. I combined them with older? Czech "English-cut" [cornerless cube pressed glass] beads that had been strung on what seems to be yellowed nylon? twist, as it melted into a brown lump with my thread burner tip. The length allows the two strands to be worn as is, or doubled as a collar-bone length choker. My clasp selection wasn't quite up to the task - I kind of liked the festive and gaudy faux sapphire, but it's silver colored and I'd already used gold-filled rings for the strand ends and didn't want to restring everything, as it was a hell of a job the first time around, given my worsening eyesight. So I stuck with a small, old-fashioned looking clasp. A bit fiddly when it comes to the doubled choker arrangement, but it works and the vertical style seems more secure. Does anyone have a clue when these beads were made, and whether they're Czech or Moretti? The inside colors are produced by a glass tube featuring rounded segments of cyan, yellow, and magenta - just like printer's colors. The overlay is a 5-sided cane. Polishing marks are still visible on the facets. Recent and vintage Czech glass seems to use red, green, and blue wisps of color, not a base tube. They look very different depending upon whether the background is dark or light. All rights reserved by Bead Collector Network and its users |
