A fashion that seems to have started about 20 years ago, marketing translucent and/or colorless Burmese jadeite as rare and valuable. When I first bought a piece, it was termed "water jade."

Quite a lot of it around nowadays ... and with all things jade, difficult to casually distinguish from calcite, quartz, certain glasses, or jadeite that has been bleached and polymer-impregnated.
