Original Message:   sea creature discs, what are they?

I bought this necklace about 20 years ago for 75 cents. Some beads were missing then and more have broken since. The pieces are very fragile so I've never used them. They are brittle and more porous than shell. My guess is they came from the inside of some type of sea creature. Maybe not a sea creature, but that's my guess. 10mm - 11mm diameter.
