"Coral has been a favorite material for beadmaking for thousands of years--from Roman times and earlier--and it remains desirable today. In this expansive survey, Jamey will present the incredible panoply of corals, both precious and non-precious, as they have been used in ancient and modern jewelry, beadwork, and popular costume jewelry. We will also see fossil coral, and coral imitations and substitutes--from native cultures and from modern factories. Because the desire to exploit coral is international, we will view the art of people from Europe, Asia (particularly The Himalayas and China), Africa (mainly North Africa and Nigeria), Island SE Asia and Hawaii, and the Americas. Jamey will display a selection of pieces from his extensive collection."
