Hi Joyce -- We actually had a long discussion in the Ethnographic room in Tucson whether these were furnace-wound Indian glass! I should have included size in my initial post as well - these beads measure about 14 mm in diameter.

There is definitely some superficial kinship, but I tend to think they are either (i) something else entirely or (ii) represent a significant advancement in technique over the Indian beads we typically see from that period. These beads are much smaller and more delicate, and the workmanship (to my eye, anyway) is significantly better/different.

I'll see if I can find some of the other beads and photograph them together :)
