True bone ash is the source - calcined bone which is finely ground. Potters still use it and this is the source that I use to melt glasses like these. There is a saying with colored glass makers - mixed well is half melted. One other way to get a color similar to this would be called a "girasol" glass - this is opacified with lead arsenate.
