Original Message:   Celluloid cabochons
That is truely amazing. "Celluloid-coral" on a Moroccan fibule. Truely amazing.

The funny thing is I realize only now I might have had exactly this.

I own a "footlet" ("bracelet" for the feet is a "footlet" - is it not...?) from the Grand Kabylia mountains. I have posted it here already, I think. It is a big massive piece of good silver with enemal and 3 big pieces of coral around the centre. One piece is clearly real coral, the second piece was a replaced coral that fell out and the third piece was red plastic of a kind I could never identify! I took the piece to Morocco last week for repair or replacement. Now, after reading your post, I realize that I should have told the Moroccan silversmith to keep this plastic piece, after replacement with coral. I hope it's not too late. Will immedeately cabel Morocco, to keep this plastic piece. I did not give it any (historic) value, because I thought the coral had been replaced with this red plastic only recently. Maybe this cabochon was celluloid too? I will investigate.
