Original Message:   Celluloid
First of all thank you for this ample information and I am looking forward to your article.

I have never seen celluloid trade beads for Africa, but what I have seen is celluloid cabochons in Kabyle fibulae, Kabyle anklets . The pieces I saw were part of the J.-F. and M.-L. Bouvier collection at the 'Institut du monde Arabe' (exhibition 'Des trésors à porter. Bijoux et parures du Maghreb' still to be seen until 8 january 2017 and worthwhile seeing).

Next to the Kabyle fibulae (Small Kabylia) it was written that the pieces were from end 19th C beginning 20th C and that celluloid often replaced Coral between 1880 and 1910. (see catalogue page 90)

I know of celluloid cabochons in a Moroccan fibulae ensemble from the Jbel Siroua, but no indication of the age.

Sorry, that is all I know.
