Tibetan Buddhist portable shrines called Ga'u are a traditional part of Tibetan adornment worn in a necklace or across the chest. Ga’u function as a reliquary for personal mementos that might include blessings granted, charms & amulets for good luck or protection, souvenirs from pilgrimages to auspicious places as well as small objects of significant personal meaning. Larger examples commonly housed statues of Buddhist deities in homes and monasteries.
The Ga’u below is decorated with the ubiquitous Tashi Tah Gay or eight auspicious symbols.
The second photo shows a man's ga'u with the contents exposed.
