Thank you so much for responding Rosanna. I confess that I'm loathe to take the strand apart to conduct the sort of tests you advise as I like the necklace so much as is. I did try a direct material comparison to some bakelite beads I have (picture attached) via teeth tapping and temperature. I found the round ones to be both harder to the teeth and colder to the lip. In person they really don't really resemble amber - they are more like burnished wood in appearance, but much harder than any wood I have. They seem not as hard as glass or agate. Are phenolic resins and bakelite similar in response to simichrome? Is simichrome similar to ammonia with regard to test results? My best, Linda
